WHY DOES OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM NEED TO CHANGE?

A 2016 World Economic Forum report describes a ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ and its effects: In 2022 when we look around we see the effects of the fourth industrial revolution.

Today's world exists as an epidemic of stress, anxiety and depression. We have a growing awareness that it is essential to build the correct heart and mind muscles to live healthy, happy and meaningful lives. However, our current education system is still training children to comply and getting them ready for industrial era jobs, while we know that change is happening at an exponential rate every second.

Children now need an education system that works towards keeping the learner in mind, a system that personalizes learning according to their strengths and weakness along with including experiences that build their emotional and spiritual capacity too. Online schooling and the use to technology allows us just that.

In other words Korroboree International Online School is our response to the 4th Industrial Revolution and we exist to help children become the best version of themselves.

Korroboree online School is powered by Dreamtime Digital learning system. This is a platform built keeping the learner in mind. At Korroboree online school children will learn at their pace according to their learning style and reflect on their own progress to make sure they have understood the concept, rather than just score marks according to the standardised testing system.

Dreamtime digital learning system has been created on the belief that a child learns as much as what and how the concept is taught to them. Our experienced curriculum designers have designed a curriculum that incorporates theories on neuroscience, behavioural science and future skills and the system is digitally-driven. Our curriculum is designed to help learners become adaptive thinkers, problem solvers, emotionally intelligent, and media literate.

Design thinking is integral to entrepreneurship and empathy is integral to design thinking. Empathy development is a skill that all our learners will develop as an outcome of the learning experiences.

Learning makes sense when learners understand the purpose of learning, its relevance and connection to the real world.

We have adopted a student-centric approach to increase learner engagement.

Learning is exciting when a learner is able to demonstrate their learning in ways that are visible to others. Performance of learning is something that our learners will do on a weekly basis.

We use the active learning approach to instruction, in which all learners are asked to engage in the learning process.

Our learners will be asked to look at conventional ways of doing things and ask ‘why’ and ‘what if’ questions to shake up the status quo way of thinking.

Our multidisciplinary approach (applying skills of one discipline in another) encourages the brain to seek for patterns which results in the development of a creative brain.

Our learners will be engaged in understanding how to use and analyse different types of media.

Our Instructional Design is in part modelled on Bloom’s Taxonomy. This taxonomy is a classification system used to define and distinguish different levels of human cognition i.e; thinking, learning, and understanding.

Our learners will explore mental models of thinking. For example, embedded in the learning design are concepts that bring them to an understanding of what a fixed and growth mindset means.

Our learning design is centered on learners exploring, imagining, breaking rules, and synthesising.

Our learners will have the ability to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating and entertaining.

Behavioural science tells us that learners need agency and autonomy to feel motivated to learn. So our instructional design gives learners choice and voice wherever possible.

Our learners will explore how society and education often tells us to play it safe: We say “walk before you run”. Children think ‘big’ naturally and we want to ensure they keep doing that.

Our learning coaches will do regular emotional check-ins with our learners and work with them to expand their emotional vocabulary. Many of our sessions will encourage learners to take a walk in someone else’s shoes.
